The VLM-500 RS-232 fiber optic modem is designed to provide low-cost fiber connectivity for data communication equipment with RS-232 interface. A pair of VLM-500 fiber optic modem can transmit asynchronous data at rates up to 64K bps with typical 20 dBm optical link margin. The modem features a DTE/DCE switch and DB25 female connector. This allows it to be directly connected to most standard RS-232 interface without external cabling.The optical signal of the VLM-500 optic modem can be controlled by the RTS signal. This feature allows multiple slave VLM-500 modem to be connected to one master VLM-500 through the use of optical coupler.
