The VersaXpress-217 mananged media converter chassis is a 2.5U Rack mount Media Conversion equipment combine with a Network Management Unit (MCU) that allows for the monitoring and managing of the system fiber infrastructure. The whole media converter system can be managed through Web based, Telnet, and SNMP management or through local console port. Coordinate with SNMP management server, the fiber optic transceiver also support extensive array of traps and provide automatic e-mail notification to network management administrator. Using the Network Management, the managed media converter chassis polls the related active modules, and displays the type of installed cards, link status, packets ingress and egress counts as well as other important information. The Network Management also enables/disables each port on the LineCards, controls the ingress/egress data rate, enables module loop-back testing and provides the ability to configure system parameters such as the system IP address.

The VersaXpress-217 mananged media converter chassis supports TS-1000 Optical Subscriber Line Interface and other remote control functions. The fiber optic transceiver chassis also offers Transparent pass through mode which eliminates any Ethernet protocol related compatibility issues. The managed media converter chassis supports up to 16 Line Cards of Ethernet to Fiber converter per Chassis. The VersaXpress-217 fiber optic transceiver chassis family of products provides Copper to Fiber modules, Copper to Single fiber full duplex module. The MCU module provides four ways to manage the VersaXpress-217 chassis, line cards and fiber infrastructure:

	Web-based network management: Web browser support Java based HTTP server and CGI parser
	SNMP Management Agent and MIB II: Sun Solaries HP OpenView, Castle Rock Computing SNMPc etc.
	Telnet Management: Like a remote administration console
EMS Management:
	Provide an easy-to-use and comprehensive unified management interface for multiple VersaXpress-217.
	Max. Management capability reaches up to 300 chassis.
