While there are a number of Ethernet Extenders out there that can do distances of less than 1000 feet, including our VX-VEB160R2 High Bandwidth Ethernet Extender. There is only one that can do 18,000 feet and not even blink an eye. It’s the VX-EL600 Long Range Ethernet Extender.

Originally developed by Paradyne, The Elmo Long Distance Ethernet Extender equipment is built rock solid and can do up to 6MB for distances exceeding 18000 feet even in the most extreme conditions. Copper wise this is the longest ranged point to point modem solution that can carry that kind of bandwidth. The StormPort 400 or VX-EL600 Long Distance Ethernet Extender CPE Modem uses EtherLoop technology over existing copper phone lines to provide simultaneous lifeline voice and high-speed data communications. It delivers data rates up to 6 Mbps, upstream or downstream, and overcomes issues normally found in copper loops including transient noise, crosstalk, wire gauge changes and bridged taps.

VX-EL600 Long Distance Ethernet Extender is easy to install with a simple RJ-11 plug-in connection to the phone jack. It supports multiple subtending network devices, making it an ideal solution for both single users and small work group applications.

Whether you are a farmer looking to add a connection to your house or another part of the farm, or just trying to get internet connectivity to a guard house an IP camera for a low price, the VX-EL600 Long Distance Ethernet Extender will allow you to easily be able to overcome these obstacles.

Along with the VX-EL600 Long Distance Ethernet Extender, Versa Technology also produces several other Ethernet Extenders including the VX-VEB160R2 and the VX-VLR104. Both can do up to 100Mbps symmetrical and provide the end user everything they would need. This equipment utilizes EDSL technology that is often popular with the armed services that prefer rock solid connection that is not easily affected by the environment or external changes like storms or ionization near the wiring.

  • Value Added Resellers, Versa VARS for the win.

Posted on March 17, 2009 by versatek

Pardon the leet speak but VARs are an essential client base at Versa and being one is both a very lucrative and profitable enterprise. This is not just a pitch it's a reality. Value Added Resellers, or Resellers for short often gain more then just a source for their business with our products but they become full fledge business offering turn key solutions when using our products and marketing them to existing or new clientele. From Ethernet Extenders to Fiber Media Converters, DSL DSLAMs, Wireless Access Points the full range of copper and fiber wireless solutions can be had via Versa Technology, Inc.

Versa's range of Ethernet extenders, IP DSLAMs, Fiber Media Converters, switches, Power Over Ethernet devices and High Powered Wireless Access Points provide a one stop location where just about every imaginable data transport solution can be found.

VARS or Value Added Reseller come into their own during these moments. VARS that specialize in High Speed Internet Service, Telco networks are very and highly specialized. Often times the equipment can either be very easy to use and manage, or also often they can also be complicated to install, operate and maintain as many errors in installation, configuration of these last mile solutions and equipment can lead to very expensive do-overs or more trips by the installers to remedy or fix a solution.

If you are in this field you will come to realize as well, that equipment went it comes to Ethernet extenders, DSLAMs, Fiber Media Converters, E1 or T1 Multiplexers and Wireless Access points and Gateways are from a very niche. What more if you are a HSIA provider and attempting to decide which equipment works best and if you had to demo and evaluate everything in the market this endeavor would be both costly and time consuming. Enter the VARs and here they can assist albeit for equipment that are at a higher cost should you buy direct but that cost easily pays for itself when you discover the savings gained from Not deploying the wrong equipment and then having to uninstall, pull out the gear and if you are lucky you maybe able to return some of it for credit.

Versa Value Added Resellers are qualified both through a process that allows us as manufacturers of network equipment to both ensure, school and test that they indeed can support if not build for a client workable and lasting solution using our equipment. With over 14 years of manufacturing as well as deployment experience we are well schooled on how to support our clients as well as our VARS. The process always begins first to try to keep things as simple as possible and when things get hard and complicated offer solid suggestions and pre-configurations and for a finer touch VARS can enter the picture and offer a full range of services, from configuration set up, firmware updates to installation quotes and advice if needed. With both a combined cost effective solution and a valuable partner, equipment such as wireless gateways, DSLAMs, Ethernet extenders and fiber media converters have become both easy to use and one that you do not need to pay for the Brand for example, Cisco, Motorola, Nomadix and bleed out of your nose needlessly to achieve similar if not results that exceed even what they can offer.

  • When laying new cabling is Not a Possibility for Hotels, Motels and MDU’s.

Posted on February 26, 2009 by versatek

    xdsl

Our clients are often HSIA’s or installers that provide internet service for hotels, motels, campuses, apartment buildings and residential complexes. Now often times HSIA’s will try and pitch new wiring and sell it that way. Since the bigger the job, the larger the profits and hence the more the client has to commit to the installation and to the HSIA’s services. In the cash stripped economy we are in, few are willing to drop so much money and yet they do not want to rely on wireless entirely since supporting that service is both expensive, time consuming and often times just plain frustrating. In such times copper is King.

Enter then the possibility of using existing phone wiring that is available in all these scenarios where wiring is not a possibility and why many HSIA’s come to Versa Technology Inc.  for their copper/twisted pair phone wiring solutions.

When Cabling is No Nyet Nein:

    1. Cost of new wiring is too expensive.
    2. New wiring will destroy aesthetic look of the hotel.
    3. The amount of time needed to do the wiring is too long. ( student housing/campuses)
    4. Building is too old and renovations of any kind are out of the question.

In all of these scenarios, using existing phones and deploying an ADSL 2+ DSLAM to provide internet to the rooms is ideal. By piping in bandwidth to the phone room in these buildings, and deploying DSLAMs in the phone room that link to modems placed in the guest rooms themselves, no additional wiring or work is required. Voice would enter via the PBX into the DSLAM then with data injected it would return to the phone blocks and head to the rooms where the CPE modems are waiting to receive and filter to the phone and internet users. CAT3 or CAT5 it will work and not be a problem. It can share the same pairs where voice is running too.

Typical deployment time is often completed within a day even for a property that is 50-100 rooms and if two installers are on location that is a guarantee. Wireless can also be provided since there are ADSL2+ modems that offer a 4 port hub and wireless connectivity as well. With the ability to monitor and throttle the bandwidth on these DSLAM’s installers and HSIA’s are able then to control and manage users from wherever they are via the DSLAM’s web or CLI interface.

Frequently Asked Questions about DSLAM installations in hotels are:

    1. Will the voice or phones work if the DSLAMs fail or are out of order?

Answer : Yes it will, connectivity is hardwired and works whether the DSLAM is power on or not.

    1. Will it work with a digital PBX?

Answer: Yes it will, only when a Digital PBX AND Digital phones are use will the DSL frequencies clash. We have never seen an incident of this ever.

    1. Does installing this system far too much?

Answer: Nope cost per room can be as low as $67 a room for a wired and wireless solution to be install using ADSL2+, or mix up the install with some rooms wired and other wireless and costs per room can drop to as low as $15!

    1. What is the top speeds?

Answer: 25Mb down and 3Mb up. Way more speed then you would get for the entire building or need to pipe to any one user.

    1. What is the max range?

Answer: ADSL 2+ will go as far as 5km, even longer if you use repeaters so buildings are never a problem here.

Typical ROI for clients that charge for internet services range within 3-6 months before profiting from their one time expensive and this is a huge factor why a lot of our clients are big proponents of deploying this equipment. Contact Versa Technology Inc.  today if you have any questions and see for yourself the possibilities with xDSL. Though we only talk about ADSL 2+ here, VDSL2 and DSLAMs and CPE’s are also possible and ideal even for triple play solutions that are looking to install the best equipment for that purpose. With over 50,000 of our mini IP DSLAMs deployed worldwide and even more of our modems, this solution is one to stay and grows more cost effective every year.

Tune in next time when we discuss the other alternative when cabling is not possible. Wireless and how to do it Just Right.

  • Versa Technology at TelcoTV 2008

Posted on November 26, 2008 by versatek

    Versa Technology at TelcoTV

Versa Technology was at TelcoTV in November and had a great time. It's one of our favorite conferences because of all the innovative technologies everyone is debuting. A lot of things at TelcoTV will be implemented in our very own homes within months and some of the real cool stuff is only a couple years out. Companies like Amino, Thomson and Minerva are doing great things.

TelcoTV also provides some great learning tools. One of the best ones for customer of Versa Technology was the track for the Independent View. This provided a lot of great insight into the independent Telco market and how these companies can push forward and compete with larger carriers and provide HDTV to the customer.

Versa Technology showed off many new things at TelcoTV including a new VDSL2 DSLAM that works anywhere you could imagine outdoors, from the sewers to the telephone pole. The VX-OD3024 is a waterproof hardened VDSL2 DSLAM that comes with an optional Battery Backup that can be mounted on the telephone pole very easily. Not only can it go underground because the waterproof casing, it is also light enough to hang from power lines. It allows carriers to an extremely versatile for the end user.

Versa Technology also launched the VX-HG166, the only North America VDSL2 Gateway. It has six ports, four for IPTV and two for computers connected to it or a VOIP solution. It is the only VDSL2 gateway that can do IGMP Snooping and allows full bandwidth control including 802.1p QoS across all ports and 802.1q VLAN so that the HD IPTV service will not be interrupted.

Overall a GREAT experience and we will surely be in 2009!

  • One smart way to leverage Long Range Ethernet/Ethernet Extenders

Posted on October 23, 2008 by versatek

An old customer of ours had quite a problem, they had several PC’s they needed attached to the local Intranet but the PC’s were located slightly over 1KM away from the central switch. Why would they have a several PC’s that far away from the central switch? Well they own a 54 hold golf resort and have snack stands located throughout the course. While lots of golfers certainly carry cash on them a handful only have credit card, or prefer credit card because it’s easier to expense. So the golf course needed a way to connect back to the central Point of Sale system with nothing more than twisted pair copper ran to each location.

The first quote they go was to run fiber to each location which would have cost nearly $15,000 dollars. While the resort could certainly afford the fees it was hardly worthy investment. So they called us seeing if we had any sort of solution that would have allowed them too easily and cost effectively fix the solution. We weren’t quite sure what the distances were so we had to go out and use a Black Box device to measure. Once we did we realized it well within the range of the VX-VEB160R2 and we can still push over 40Mb of total bandwidth to these locations using the VX-VEB60R2.

We extended the resort a 30 day trial to use the product and make sure it worked properly and within a week they had not only bought that pair but had bought 4 more pair and were looking for other innovative ways to use this that even included putting security cameras in remote spots, turning other areas into easily accessible vending areas and providing WiFi for iPhones and Blackberry’s at the driving range for customers needing to answer email and send files. They managed to save nearly $14,000 while still providing a great service to the customers. One they will see an ROI on.

  • Versa Technology announces new Ethernet Extender series

Posted on October 15, 2008 by versatek

August 15, 2008, Chino CA - Versa Technology (www.versatek.com) is pleased to announce a new addition to its product line, the VX-VEB160R2. The VX-VEB160R2 Extends Ethernet up to 300 meters at 100Mbps downstream, 55 Mbps upstream and 1km with speeds of 30mbps/6mbps, respectively. The VX-VEB160R2 Ethernet Extender has a switching architecture that supports two RJ-45 Ethernet port for data and two RJ-11 phone jacks; one for the VDSL connection and one for POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) connection.

As bandwidth needs increase, especially with IPTV Triple Play video becoming more and more commonplace, the VX-VEB160R2 can fill in the gaps and cut cost by over 1000% versus digging for new fiber. Using just standard twisted pair while supplying up to 100Mbps, the VX-VEB160R2 really extends the network with the ability to provide up to four 100 Mbps connections on a single Cat 5e cable using four CO devices and four CPE devices.

The VX-VEB160R2 also provides the following:
    • One box design, CO / CPE selectable via DIP Switch;
    • Supports up to 1536 bytes packet size, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tag transparent;
    • Selectable target data rate and target SNR margin.

"While network capacity is growing exponentially, so has the cost of developing new network infrastructures. The VX-VEB160R2 Ethernet Extender allows operators to leverage existing copper lines, to provide triple play bandwidth to the end user." Said Michael Lui, Vice President of North American Sales, about why this product will help operators in North America grow. "Not only does this give operators a cost effective solution but it also gives them a ‘Swiss Army Knife’ when building new networks with a pre-existing infrastructure."

Ethostream (www.ethostream.com), a Telkonet Company, is already using the product to deploy high speed internet access to hotel guest across the country. "We are extremely excited with the flexibility the VX-VEB160R2 gives us. Being able to take advantage of the existing copper infrastructure to deliver Ethernet speeds at a low cost allows us to gain the upper hand," explains Matt Koch, Vice President of Hospitality Solutions. "Sometimes retrofitting existing networks isn’t as easy as running new cable or fiber and with construction cost often breaking the bank, the VX-VEB160R2 allows us to update existing networks while adding little cost to the customer."

    Availability and Testing

The VX-VEB160R2 is available now and is already being deployed in networks across the world. Currently products are offered with a free 30 day trial to ensure that you get exactly what you are paying for.

    Magnets

One of the great features about the VX-VEB160R2 on the bottom of the unit, this way they can be mounted to anything from a Managed switch to a Rail in a central office.
