The IEEE Communications Society, the IEEE Phototonics Society, and the Optical Society Association will be sponsoring the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) on March 22nd-26th. The exposition itself will be taking place on March 24th-26th. The conference will report on the latest breakthroughs in the fiber optics and photonics industry. Ranked as the largest optical fiber conference, the convention will offer technical workshops, tutorials, and discussions, as well as networking and partnership opportunities for companies and individuals.
The Latest Trends in The Fiber Optic Industry
The exposition will feature some of the latest solutions related to Gigabit Ethernet, optical network 100GB/S hardware, switches and FTTX solutions.
The technical conference will generate discussion and collaboration on topi Optics related to “optical network applications/services, network technologies and applications, optical Interconnection Networks, optical devices for switching, FTTx technologies, core networks and access networks”.
New Connection Methods Emerge
One of the popular topics of discussion will center on 100/400G network design and optimization. As the internet becomes globally accessible and the Internet of Things (IoT) starts to make headway into the mainstream market, 100/400 G core networks will need to be optimized to support the high bandwidth demand for the years to come. By 2020, the National Science Foundation reports that nearly 5 billion users will be using the internet. Gartner predicts that 25 billion units will inundate the IoT market.
With 4k television displays and the need for cloud computing on the rise, it’s not difficult to see why tech companies are scrambling for alternative methods to support the high demand for bandwidth. New modes of connecting to the internet are emerging such as Li-Fi and even micro-satellites as envisioned by Elon Musk. Telecommunication companies will be able to push the limits of their existing copper lines with G.fast while cable operators welcome head end innovations such as Docsis 3.1. Internet Service Providers will continue to seek for FTTX solutions to avoid the deep investment associated with FTTH networks.
Nevertheless, fiber optics will continue to be a source of innovation and we’re excited to see how the Ethernet Alliance will contribute to the conversation. Top Contributor Melissa Drozdowski for the Ethernet Alliance Linkedin Group revealed that the Ethernet Alliance will be situated in booth 2531 and will also be hosting two panels on March 24th. She has announced that the group will be discussing “investment and innovation in tunable technology” and the various “Ethernet speeds and the target applications driving their development.”
